Ex ally of Valentino Rossi identified by Honda amid high-profile revamp
The veteran MotoGP team manager, Davide Brivio, has been identified by Honda as they seek to restructure their team and regain their position at the top of the sport, according to reports by DAZN’s Ricard Jove. Honda intends for Brivio to take on a management role in support of the current team manager, Alberto Puig, rather than replacing him. Brivio’s potential move to Honda is significant due to his past association with Valentino Rossi, but it would also place him in the same garage as Marc Marquez. Honda’s efforts to recruit European talent have been driven by Marquez, but this may not be enough to convince him to stay, as he is rumored to be joining Gresini Ducati in 2024. Despite this uncertainty, Honda has already shown ruthlessness by replacing long-serving technical director Shinichi Kokubu in their quest to return to MotoGP dominance with or without Marquez. Brivio, who currently works at the Alpine F1 team, is well-known for his successful tenure as Yamaha team manager, where he played a pivotal role in bringing Rossi onboard. Brivio then went on to lead Suzuki in MotoGP, where Joan Mir clinched the 2020 championship under his guidance. If the rumors prove true, Mir would once again be reunited with Brivio at Honda.
